Today's Genesis Of Suffering & Sacrifice
When Lord Buddha spoke about suffering, he was not referring simply to superficial problems like illness and injury, but to the fact that the dissatisfied nature of the mind itself is suffering. No matter how much of something you get, it never satisfies your desire for better or more. This unceasing desire is suffering, its nature is emotional frustration.
In bringing about the Redemption through suffering, Christ has also raised human suffering to the level of the Redemption.
The difference between a man who faces death for the sake of an idea and an imitator who goes in search of martyrdom is that whilst the former expresses his idea most fully in death it is the strange feeling of bitterness which comes from failure that the latter really enjoys, the former rejoices in his victory, the latter in his suffering.
